Most café bowls are built around what looks good in a photo. A Mood Bowl is built around what your body actually needs. Each one has a defined health function — lean protein and gut health, muscle recovery, brain health, nutrient density — and the ingredients are chosen to deliver that function, not just to fill a bowl.

There are five Mood Bowls on the Mood by Ours menu. No substitutions are allowed, and that is deliberate — the combinations are built to work together. Here is every bowl explained: what is in it, what it does, and who should order it.

What Makes a Mood Bowl Different

Every bowl at Mood is cooked without seed oils. Depending on the bowl, the cooking uses grass-fed butter, olive oil, or coconut oil for vegan options. The produce comes from OURS Farm in Bedugul, the group’s own working farm in the North Bali highlands, harvested and delivered to the Uluwatu kitchen daily.

The bowls are not interchangeable grain bowls with a protein on top. Each one is a specific meal with a specific purpose. The ingredients are chosen for what they contribute nutritionally, not just for variety or visual balance. That is why substitutions are not offered — changing one component changes what the bowl actually does.

All five bowls are gluten-free. The Crispy Chickpeas Bowl is also vegan and vegan available. If you are eating at Mood with dietary requirements, the bowl menu is a strong starting point.

The Five Mood Bowls

Grilled Chicken and Feta Bowl — Lean Protein, Healthy Fats, Probiotic Meal

Built for: lean protein, healthy fats, gut health

Avocado · sweet potato · cauli rice · pickles · cucumber · tomato · hummus · yogurt

This bowl is built around three things that work well together: quality lean protein from the grilled chicken, healthy fats from the avocado and hummus, and a probiotic element from the yogurt and pickles. The cauli rice keeps it light without removing the satisfaction of a complete meal.

The fermented components — pickles and yogurt — contribute to gut microbiome health in a way that most café bowls do not think about. This is not a salad with chicken on top. It is a properly constructed meal with a clear nutritional logic.

Order this if: you want a complete, balanced meal that does not leave you heavy. Good for lunch after a surf or a morning activity. Also a strong choice if you are eating clean but do not want to sacrifice satisfaction.

Crispy Chickpeas Bowl — Nutrient-Dense, High-Fibre, Healthy Fats

Built for: nutrient density, fibre, collagen, healthy fats — vegan

Avocado · yogurt · broccoli · cauli rice · sweet potato · carrot · cabbage

The only fully vegan bowl on the menu, and also the most nutrient-dense by volume. Crispy chickpeas provide plant-based protein and fibre. The combination of avocado, yogurt, and the vegetable base covers healthy fats, probiotics, and a wide range of micronutrients in one bowl.

Broccoli, carrot, cabbage, and sweet potato together deliver a broad spectrum of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Cauli rice keeps the carbohydrate load low without removing texture or bulk. This is a bowl that works hard nutritionally without relying on animal protein to do it.

Order this if: you are eating plant-based, want maximum nutrient variety in one meal, or are looking for something high in fibre that keeps digestion moving. Also a good choice on days when you want something lighter but still complete.

Protein Bowl — Muscle Recovery and Hormone Balancing

Built for: muscle recovery, hormone balance, sustained energy

Beef · soft boiled eggs · cottage cheese · avo · sweet potato · broccoli

The highest-protein bowl on the menu, and built with a specific recovery function. Grass-fed beef provides complete protein with a favourable omega-3 to omega-6 ratio compared to grain-fed alternatives. Soft boiled eggs add further protein and fat-soluble vitamins. Cottage cheese — made in-house at Mood — contributes casein protein, which digests slowly and supports sustained muscle recovery.

Sweet potato provides complex carbohydrates for glycogen replenishment. Broccoli supports hormonal balance through its glucosinolate content. Avocado adds healthy fats and potassium. This is not a bowl assembled from whatever ingredients happen to be in the kitchen — every component is there for a reason.

Order this if: you have trained that morning, you are prioritising muscle maintenance or growth, or you want a meal that holds you for several hours without a blood sugar crash. Strong post-surf choice.

Grilled Salmon Bowl — Brain Health and Recovery

Built for: brain health, omega-3s, recovery, anti-inflammation

Sushi rice · avocado · edamame · carrots · cabbage · cucumber · nori

Grilled salmon is one of the best dietary sources of DHA and EPA — the omega-3 fatty acids most directly linked to brain function, mood regulation, and reduction of systemic inflammation. This bowl is built around maximising the benefit of that protein source with ingredients that complement rather than compete with it.

Sushi rice provides a clean carbohydrate base. Nori adds iodine and trace minerals. Edamame contributes additional plant protein and isoflavones. The avocado, cabbage, cucumber, and carrots cover healthy fats, fibre, and hydration. This is one of the most complete bowls on the menu for anyone thinking about long-term health rather than just immediate hunger.

Order this if: you prioritise cognitive function, are recovering from physical or mental fatigue, or simply want the most nutritionally complete option on the menu. Also the strongest choice if you eat fish regularly for health reasons.

Poke Bowl — Omega-3s, Fibre, Brain Health

Built for: omega-3s, fibre, vitamins for brain health

Yellow fin tuna or salmon (+40) · sushi rice · avo · mix veggies · ponzu · corn tortilla

The Poke Bowl at Mood is built around the same nutritional logic as the Salmon Bowl but with a different flavour profile. Yellow fin tuna is lean, high in protein, and a strong source of omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins including B12, which is directly linked to neurological function and energy metabolism.

Ponzu — a citrus-based Japanese sauce — keeps the dressing clean and sharp without adding refined sugars. The corn tortilla adds texture and makes this one of the more satisfying bowls to eat. The mix vegetables and avocado round out the nutritional profile with fibre, healthy fats, and micronutrients.

Order this if: you want a lighter bowl with a Japanese-influenced flavour, prefer tuna over salmon, or want something that still delivers serious nutritional value without feeling heavy after eating.

Which Mood Bowl Should You Order?

A quick guide based on what you are looking for:

After training or surfing: Protein Bowl. Highest protein, built specifically for muscle recovery and glycogen replenishment.

For gut health: Grilled Chicken and Feta. Probiotic components from yogurt and pickles, plus lean protein and healthy fats.

Eating plant-based: Crispy Chickpeas. The only fully vegan bowl, and the most nutrient-dense by volume.

For brain function and focus: Grilled Salmon. Highest in DHA and EPA omega-3s, built for cognitive health and recovery.

Want something lighter: Poke Bowl. Clean flavour, lean protein, omega-3s without heaviness.

Bowls Built to Actually Do Something

Most healthy-sounding café food in Bali delivers the aesthetics of clean eating without the substance. The Mood Bowls are different because they were built the other way around — start with a health outcome, then choose every ingredient to support it.

No substitutions means the bowl you receive is the bowl as it was designed. That is not a limitation — it is the point.

The Mood Bowls are available at lunch and dinner at Mood by Ours on Jl. Labuansait, Pecatu, Uluwatu. See the full menu for the complete picture including breakfast, mains, and drinks. If you are eating clean across your whole Bali stay, the Mood Market stocks the same quality produce from the Bedugul farm for cooking at your villa.
